History

Written records about the history of Trinity Methodist Church are very slim. The sign on the church says "Organized 1850", but according to the Methodist records at Millsaps College in Jackson, the Mississippi Methodist Conference had already assigned a pastor in 1847-48 (Rev. William Price). As a result we date the year of the "official" beginning of Trinity Methodist Church as 1847. Go here for a list of known pastors at Trinity Methodist.

The current church building was built by the church members in 1937 under the supervision of Walter R. Husband ( who died in 1979 and is buried in the Trinity Cemetery) on land donated to the church by Steve Thornton. Most of the lumber for the church was donated by the U.S. Government from Forest Service land. The pews in the church came from the old church which was located within the current cemetery. We do not have any pictures or knowledge of pictures including the old church; if anybody has seen any please contact us.

The concrete table in the front of the church which has been used for many  Homecoming meals was built in 1977 by Harold Husband (the son of Walter Husband), who passed away in February, 2008 and is buried in the Trinity Cemetery.

The membership of the Trinity Methodist Church family has always been drawn from the rural farming families in the area. Similar to what has occurred throughout the U.S. in the 1900s, many of the farming families left the area. By the early 1970s attendance had decreased so much that regular church services were discontinued.   Foreseeing a need for perpetual care of the cemetery and the church the Trinity Methodist Church Cemetery,Inc. was formed in 1971.

Starting in the 1970s we have had an annual Homecoming at the church. The date of the Homecoming is the 3rd Sunday in July.
